What Is Love?: “Love Is_____”

LOVE IS A PRIORITY

1 Corinthians 13:3 (NLT)

If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t LOVE others, I would have gained nothing.

Jesus prioritized LOVE over all other virtues.

Every thought, action, sacrifice, service or deed must be driven by LOVE or it is worthless.

LOVE IS PREEMINENT

Jesus said –

  • If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
  • This is how everyone will know you are My disciples, if you love each other.
  • Jesus said All the Law and the prophets depend on LOVE.

Romans 13:10 (NLT)

10 LOVE does no wrong to others, so LOVE fulfills the requirements of God’s law.

LOVE REFLECTS THE CHARACTER OF GOD

1 John 4:16–17 (ESV)

16 So we have come to know and to believe the LOVE that God has for us. God is LOVE, and whoever abides in LOVE abides in God, and God abides in him.

17 By this is LOVE perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as He is so also are we in this world.

LOVE IS VULNERABLE

C.S. Lewis “The Four Loves”

“To love is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries. Avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket – safe, dark, motionless, airless – it will change. It will not be broken. Instead, it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable.”

Jesus came to His own and they didn’t receive Him.

LOVE WINS

1 Corinthians 13:13 (NLT)

13 Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and LOVE—and the greatest of these is LOVE.

HOW WILL LOVE LEAD YOU?
